Company Description

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

The Site Superintendent plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily construction operations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with the General Superintendent, Project Manager, and technical teams, this position is responsible for coordinating field activities, supervising both internal crews and subcontractors, and maintaining strict adherence to project schedules, specifications, and safety protocols. 

The Site Superintendent proactively resolves issues, drives productivity, and ensures compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements while fostering a collaborative and safety‑focused work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Report directly to the General Superintendent and Civil Project Manager, ensuring clear communication of project status, risks, and operational needs.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to self‑performing crews and their supervisors, promoting productivity, teamwork, and adherence to project expectations.
  • Manage and supervise subcontractor teams within assigned work areas, ensuring alignment with project objectives, scopes of work, and quality standards.

Safety, Compliance & Quality Control

  • Uphold and enforce all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements by promoting a safe work environment, implementing safety procedures, and conducting regular site inspections to mitigate risks and prevent incidents.
  • Oversee and coordinate all on-site construction activities, ensuring full compliance with project drawings, specifications, regulatory standards, and company procedures.
  • Continuously monitor the quality of work performed on-site to confirm compliance with industry best practices, project requirements, and quality control expectations.

Planning, Coordination & Problem‑Solving

  • Collaborate closely with the General Superintendent, Project Managers, Engineers, and key stakeholders to develop, refine, and execute construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocations to achieve project milestones.
  • Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues or obstacles impacting construction progress, using sound judgment and problem-solving skills to minimize delays and maintain workflow.

Documentation, Reporting & Cost Management

  • Maintain accurate records of daily construction activities, progress updates, site conditions, and changes from the original plan.
  • Provide regular reports to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Monitor project costs—including labor, materials, and equipment—and support budget management by identifying cost‑effective solutions.
Qualifications

  • Minimum secondary school diploma, a degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Completion of relevant certifications, such as First Aid/CPR, Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS), and other industry-specific certifications.  
  • A proven track record of minimum 5-7 years in a civil construction supervisory role, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in structural steel erection.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse workforce. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with team members, stakeholders, and subcontractors. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address construction challenges and provide practical solutions. 
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Familiarity with tunneling, trackwork, earthworks, and utility relocation is an asset.  
  • Proficient in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
