VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) Operations Engineer – L3


HCL team is looking for an experienced Kubernetes Operations Engineer with expertise in VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid implementation and troubleshooting experience. In this role, you’ll work closely with operations team on some of HCL’s largest and most strategic customer engagements to manage and support VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid platform running on top of VMware Telco Cloud infrastructure and implement POC solutions and provide support for running services.

  • Experience – A minimum of 7-9 years of experience in an engineering/operations role with a VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid expertise.

Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Manage and operate the VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) management and workload clusters which are managed by Telco Cloud Automation (TCA)
  • Provide Level 3 support for Tanzu Kubernetes clusters, addressing complex issues and incidents.

in a 24x7x365 global support delivery team.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of Tanzu Kubernetes Grid upgrades and patch management.
  • Monitor the health, capacity and performance of Tanzu Kubernetes clusters and associated services and respond to alerts.
  • Manage Harbor container registry instances, repositories and helm charts
  • Manage telco cloud native functions/services (CSAR)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to container orchestration, network connectivity, and performance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and contribute to post-incident reports.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical incidents
  • Design and implement automation for routine operational tasks.
  • Collaborate with Level 1 and Level 2 support teams to ensure timely incident resolution.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge base articles and documentation (SOP’s & TSG’s) to help L1/L2 teams to support operations.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior support team members.
  • Combine technical expertise and customer requirements to solve complex business challenges.
  • Work with architecture team on process improvement and strategic initiatives
  • Work with Architects to deliver operation capability and deploy new VMware Telco Cloud capabilities in customer environment.
  • Analyse and eliminate top issues impacting customer experience.
  • Act as a technical escalation point within the team.


Requirements:

  • 7-9 years of experience in a technical position and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid administrator
  • Proven experience in a Level 3 Kubernetes support role.
  • Strong understanding of Tanzu Kubernetes Grid architecture and components.
  • Experience with Kubernetes-related tools and technologies (e.g., kubectl, helm).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting issues related to containerization (Docker).
  • Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash, Python, Terraform/Ansible).
  • Knowledge of container runtime technologies (e.g., containerd, CRI-O).
  • Strong understanding and hands on experience working with underlying infrastructure (Telco Cloud Automation (TCA), vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSXT, AVI)
  • Strong understanding and hands on experience in leveraging observability solutions (vRO, Prometheus/Grafana, Dynatrace) for Kubernetes platform monitoring and logging
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CKAD, CKA) would be a plus.
