Unit Clerk II (Emergency Department)

As part of the multi-disciplinary team the Unit Clerk is responsible for the facilitation of patient flow through the Emergency Department and acts as a liaison to staff, patients, their families and the public; the incumbent is professional, courteous and displays the values of the organization during all interactions while working collaboratively with the clinic and interdisciplinary staff.


– Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent educational preparation.
– Training related to office administration/office coordination.
– Knowledge of medical terminology required.


– Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team in an extremely diverse, fast paced environment.
– Proven innovation in problem solving skills and critical thinking.
– Demonstrated interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
– Professional telephone etiquette is mandatory.
– Expert in the use of Powerchart, ANSOS, ESM, SAP/SRM, Word and Excel. 
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
– Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
– Demonstrated embodiment of MGH core service standards and values as demonstrated through tact, diplomacy and discretion in matters that relate to patients, staff and hospital affairs.
– Demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
– Demonstrated ability to be receptive to instructions/direction.
– Able to work independently as well as work in a team environment.
– Excellent organization skills required.
– Experience coordinating patient bookings appointments required.
– Chart and file management.
– Demonstrated ability to work closely with patients, to provide patient focused care.
– Excellent work and attendance record required.
