Salary: $18.00 or higher depending on experience
We are seeking a reliableTorch Cutter to join our yard team. Under the direction of the Yard Supervisor, this permanent full-time position will be responsible for cutting oversized scrap metal. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently with the endurance and stamina to work in variable weather conditions including hot, dry summer conditions and cold winter conditions.
NOTE: this is not a welding position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cut oversized metal using a cutting torch
- Agility to climb in and around all shapes and sizes of metal for torching safely
- Sorting, picking, and processing metal pieces
- Assist in the maintenance of the equipment used in the performance of the job
- Recognize operational problems and report them to the supervisor
- Operate equipment while adhering to all safe work practices and procedures
- Assist in other yard work and warehouse duties as the need arises
- Maintain a clean work area and equipment
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 1 year torch cutting experience
- Working knowledge of oxy-propane torches; oxy-acetylene experience will be considered
- Working knowledge of safety standards
- Good oral English communication abilities
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Able to work professionally, respectfully with a positive attitude and a high level of personal integrity at all times in a fast-paced working environment
- Strong work ethic and ability to complete work in a timely manner
- Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Work Conditions & Additional Information:
- Working hours:Mon to Fri, 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions at all times
- Exposure to heat and chemicals used in torches
- Wearing the proper PPE including Respiratory Protection and Welding Shield/Mask is mandatory
- Long hours of standing/sitting
- Own tools/equipment required: Steel-toed safety boots
