Your work environment at EXP


EXP is currently seeking a Team Lead – Building Science to join its Building Science Discipline in our Hamilton, ON office. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of building science technical work as it relates to new construction, assessment and restoration projects, including but not limited to the responsibilities listed below.


What a day at EXP has in store for you



  • Project management tasks including project set‑up and team assignment, project schedule and budget management, project delivery, invoicing and collections.

  • Perform building condition assessments, performance audit, asset and property review/assessment, reserve fund studies, design, and coordinating various building repair(s).

  • Assessment of building envelope assemblies in existing buildings, report preparation and review of reports from technical staff members.

  • Prepare specifications and drawings from schematic design to construction documents for rehabilitation of existing projects.

  • Building envelope design review of the architectural drawings and specifications for new construction projects.

  • Conduct construction contract administration services for the rehabilitation of building envelope assemblies in existing buildings.

  • Construction review services that include review of submittals, shop drawings, substitution requests, request for information, mock‑up reviews, plant visits and witness testing.

  • Attendance of meetings with the architects, contractors, trades, clients and stakeholders.

  • Staff management tasks including hiring of new staff, team building, professional development, and performance evaluations.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate staff.

  • Business development tasks including strategic growth initiatives, marketing of services and liaison with clients, building strong client relationships, and generating new business.


What your experience looks like



  • 10‑15 years of technical experience in building science with proven ability to manage projects and help facilitate business development.

  • Staff management experience.

  • University degree in a related field of study such as Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Building Science.

  • Master’s degree would be considered an asset.

  • P. Eng. designation in an asset.

  • BSSO certification is an asset.

  • Experience in residential, commercial and institutional sectors is required.

  • In depth knowledge of various building envelope systems and assemblies.

  • In‑depth knowledge of standards and guidelines related to building envelope systems and assemblies.

  • Knowledge of the NECB and energy standards.

  • Experience in building envelope condition assessments, preparation of rehabilitation specifications and drawings, tendering process and contract administration and construction review services during construction.

  • Experience in new construction projects providing sub‑consultant design review services for building envelope assemblies.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for site visits.

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with clients and co‑workers.

  • Ability to work effectively in a high demand and fast‑paced environment.

  • An excellent team builder with the ability to motivate people.

  • Leadership skills are a requirement.
