Our Safety & System Assurance office is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Safety and System Assurance to provide overall supervision oversight of the system safety assurance governance processes in alignment with relevant legislation, international standards, and best practices. The role will be driving system safety assurance through the projects, portfolios and program lifecycles delivering systems that achieve the highest level of safety for all Metrolinx’ assets and processes.

This role will oversee and manage a team that develop, implement, and manage System Safety Assurance processes.

  • What will I be doing?


  • Oversee, evaluate and assure the development and execution of system safety assurance processes for all Metrolinx projects, portfolios and program leading to realization of safety requirements. 
  • Supervise the implementation, training and execution of System Safety Assurance processes for all Metrolinx Programs, including risk assessment, evaluation, specification, demonstration, independent assessment, acceptance, and approvals.
  • Oversee the review and auditing of contracted design and build for adherence to required System Assurance program activities.
  • Lead the development of recommendations for asset and operational safety assurance.
  • Lead the development and monitoring of balanced and focused metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for system safety performance.
  • Develop, maintains, and leverages an internal network for strategic collaborations and initiatives that are specifically targeted to improve the system safety and safety performance of assets and operations.
  • Provide strategic leadership to a team of professional staff, and indirectly supervise other units in delivering system safety and safety performance.
  • Mentor and provide direction to staff and project teams (., defines processes, roles, responsibilities, and expectations); delivers timely feedback to ensure adherence to timelines; develop and implement action plans.
  • Report performance for implementation of the programs and produces endorsement argumentation, conditions and restrictions for gate approvals of the progressive safety assurance framework. 
  • What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in implementing and managing System Safety Assurance programs with competency managing and leading technical and management teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with systems or safety assurance management, assessment or audit, preferably in a public transit environment.
  • Training and application experience of systems engineering processes, common safety methodology, safety risk assessment and hazard management, or related railway application international standards (., ISO 15288, ERA CSM, CSA CMREA, EN 50126,-128,-129, ORR RM3, ISO 31000, Yellow book, iESM safety method, MIL-STD-882, DOT-FTA-MA-26-5005-00-01, DOT-FTA-MA-90-5006-02-01) is an asset.
  • . (Professional Engineer) in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
