<p>Are you a Crane Design Engineer with relevant experience in the field? This 12-month contract role may be a good fit for you.</p><h3>Position Overview</h3>
<p>The Marine Crane SME will collaborate with the Engineering Change Team to provide expert technical support and guidance on engineering changes for various Royal Canadian Navy Non-Combatant Platforms. Responsibilities include planning, development, evaluation, and implementation of engineering tasks, as well as supporting coastal Engineering and Delivery teams.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate will possess extensive technical knowledge and experience in marine cranes, focusing on design, implementation, and maintenance protocols. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficiency and safety of marine operations.</p>
<h3>Advantages & Position Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Schedule: 40 hrs/wk, flexible within core business hours</li>
<li>Work Environment: Hybrid - mix of remote, office, and onboard DND vessels</li>
<li>Travel: Occasional domestic travel to support vessels</li>
<li>Location: Ideally in Halifax; flexible for candidates elsewhere in Canada willing to travel</li>
<li>Contract Duration: Approximately 18 months with potential extension</li>
<li>Clearance: Trade, Controlled Goods, NATO clearance (can start with reliability)</li>
</ul>
<h3>Responsibilities</h3>
<ol>
<li>Provide guidance on marine crane selection, installation, and operation</li>
<li>Develop maintenance strategies to optimize crane performance</li>
<li>Collaborate on crane system design and safety standards</li>
<li>Identify requirement sets for 3T & 20T cranes supporting RFPs</li>
<li>Assess bids for technical compliance</li>
<li>Participate in System Requirement Reconciliation activities</li>
<li>Develop IVVQ plans for baseline requirements</li>
<li>Advise during project planning, risk assessments, and safety evaluations</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with standards like SOLAS, Classification Society, ILO</li>
<li>Assist in technical proposals and cost estimates</li>
</ol>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree or Technical diploma in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Structural Engineering, or related field</li>
<li>10+ years experience with Marine/Offshore Cranes</li>
<li>Experience across all design cycle phases on marine platforms</li>
<li>Strong in requirements development and IVVQ</li>
<li>Deep knowledge of marine crane technologies and safety legislation</li>
</ul>
<h3>Preferred Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Eligible for Professional Engineer registration in Nova Scotia, Ontario, or British Columbia</li>
<li>Experience with SOLAS/IMO, CSA, Class Society, DND regulations</li>
<li>Previous work with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard</li>
<li>Experience supporting operational assets in marine environments</li>
</ul>
