Department Overview:


HR Governance and Controls team is responsible for providing risk advice and oversight so that our HR business areas have adequately considered, managed, and mitigated the risks in day-to-day activities, operations, services and are operating within risk appetite.

You will provide practical recommendations and independent challenge and encourage transparent discussion of risk issues fostering an effective transparent risk culture. Contribute to enterprise governance, risk and building enterprise capabilities to streamline the three lines of defense and improve effectiveness.

Job Description:


As a Senior Analyst, Data Governance, and Data Steward, you will provide oversight over data risks within HR ensuring the Line of Business meets enterprise data policies and standards.

Primary Accountabilities include:


Govern and provide oversight of data under their stewardship, acting as a focal point for data governance within the Line of Business

Ensure the Line of Business (LOB) adheres to data related policies, standards and meets requirements set out by the Enterprise Data and Information Management Policy and Standards


Design, implement, and maintain LOB-specific processes, templates, and appropriate mitigating controls, to support enterprise data policy and standards and ensure effective management and control of LOB data

Review and escalate data risks and issues and provide advice and support to business owners in development and implementation of action plans for issue resolution


Deliver training, tools, and advice to support the governance and oversight of data

Provide guidance to the Business on activities such as identification of critical data and critical data elements, metadata management and data quality tasks and data retention and disposition


Partner with business and technology stakeholders to drive effective data activities for the Business

Provide data governance expertise to support projects, ensuring projects meet required data governance and management policies and standards


Support “Data in Change” initiatives with data management needs, including reviewing the Data Impact Assessments (DIAs) and reporting and escalating as necessary per the DIA process

Maintain oversight of HR’s Data Inventory (within the Data Book of Record) and 1A processes to support compliance with Enterprise Data Lifecycle Management (EDLM) standards


Review EDLM related gaps and monitor, challenge, and ensure issues are escalated and reported as required

Job Requirements


Undergraduate degree/technical certificate or five (5) or more years relevant experience

Solid understanding of data governance principles and an understanding of data risk and data management


Planning and organizational skills with a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities

Experience with working in both a technical and business context is an asset; able to translate technical concepts into easy-to-understand business language


A team player with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team with a proven track record of delivering results by demonstrating the ability to take independent action

A positive “can do” attitude with a curiosity and willingness to learn


Comfortable navigating a space that is not well defined, ambiguous, and complex at times.

Proven background in using influencing skills and being comfortable with raising strategic ideas for change


Strong collaborator who engages a variety of colleagues within the business, enterprise stakeholders, and control partners

Excellent analytical skills in assessing risk, issues and challenging the status quo
