We are an unincorporated non-profit association of insurers. FA operates in Ontario, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories. Every insurer licensed to write automobile liability insurance in these jurisdictions is a member of the Facility Association. The affairs and business of FA is managed and controlled by a Board of Directors with authority Canada-wide. The President and CEO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization and management of staff.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Actuarial Analyst leverages their education and experience to collaborate with and assist members of the valuation, planning/forecasting, pricing, and data analytics teams in the preparation and analysis of data used in financial forecasting (exposures, premium, loss ratios, expenses, and cash flows). The incumbent works with colleagues across the organization, as well as FA member companies and stakeholders, to support FA’s ability to achieve its strategic priorities and objectives by enabling risk-informed decision-making. This specific role focuses on valuation (reserving), with future opportunities for rotation to different departments as well as opportunities to work on cross-functional projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform analyses using actuarial data (such as product pricing, reserves, and financial projections), disclose relevant assumptions, observations, and conclusions to the appropriate stakeholders, and make recommendations within established timelines.
  • Master the actuarial work processes, recommend improvements, and implement approved modifications.
  • Build and enhance tools used in actuarial processes.
  • Build effective documentation and risk controls into all key steps of the actuarial workflow.
  • Build, test, and enhance new processes supporting IFRS 17 financial reporting, financial statement disclosures, and valuation efficiency.
  • Enhance management information and reporting tools and communications.
  • Find solutions and assist colleagues in solving complex problems/situations by sharing their understanding of difficult actuarial concepts and provide training on these concepts.
  • Contribute actively to the team’s work by considering its priorities.
  • Help and coach teammates to make the individual and the whole team more efficient.
  • Gain leadership experience by conducting peer reviews, coaching teammates, and actively contributing to the team’s planning and prioritization.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • University or college degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, statistics, or a related field.
  • 4+ CAS exams/2 ACIA modules; ACAS/ACIA designation is a significant asset.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in Property & Casualty insurance related to reserving, valuation, pricing, rate filing, finance, capital modeling, and/or data science.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Tableau or similar business intelligence tools.
  • Proficient knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., SQL, SAS, VBA, Python, R).
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills combined with strong verbal/written communication skills; experience making presentations to senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects independently and with a team to contribute to the successful delivery of time-sensitive projects.
  • History of being able to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables.
  • Experience using GISA/IBC data and exhibits (i.e., automobile insurance industry statistical data) is an asset.
