About the role:
Boston Scientific is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our new product development team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering with a proven track record of designing manufacturing equipment. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with several departments to integrate innovative technologies to improve the company’s design and manufacturing capabilities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct detailed engineering assessments of innovative technology concepts.
- Lead the design and execution of structured experimental plans to drive data-based decisions.
- Understand engineering principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques.
- Apply structured problem-solving, lean principles, and best practice process development to drive product and process improvements.
- Work independently and handle non-routine situations as an individual contributor.
- Perform mathematical calculations such as speed, torque, load, stress, and force, ensuring the design meets functional and structural requirements.
- Utilize SolidWorks for design, including Simulation (FEA), to verify designs meet all necessary specifications.
- Select appropriate materials based on material properties, their effects on design performance, and choose suitable manufacturing processes, including machining, molding, sheet metal forming, and additive manufacturing.
- Design and introduce manufacturing processes to increase capabilities and efficiencies, delivering a competitive edge to our company and our customers.
- Work with mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, integrating components such as pneumatic/servo actuators, grippers, air presses, motors, solenoid valves, safety relays, etc.
- Present technical data and recommendations to stakeholders during key technical updates.
- Adhere to all requirements of the Quality Management System.
- Comply with the company’s Health & Safety policies and inform Management of unsafe working conditions.
- Occasional travel as required.
- Other duties as required.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 9+ years of relevant work experience as an individual contributor, with no managerial responsibilities.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, with extensive experience in both design and simulation.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Strong root cause analysis skills.
- Solid experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge.
Preferred qualifications:
- Work experience in the medical device industry will be an asset.
