<p>Posting Id</p><p>3214</p><p>Department</p><p>Community Services</p><p>Division</p><p>Public Works Operations</p><p>Section</p><p>Urban Forestry Natural Environment Horticulture</p><p>Job Grade</p><p>PT Student Grade 02</p><p>Rate of Pay</p><p>$ $19.10 Hourly</p><p>Job Type</p><p>Temporary Full Time- Contract</p><p>Contract Length/End Date</p><p>May 4th to Aug. 28th 2026</p><p>Replacement/New Position</p><p>New Vacancy</p><p>Posting Type</p><p>Internal and External</p><p>Posting Date</p><p>12/19/2025</p><p>Application Deadline</p><p>05/31/2026</p><h2>Position Summary</h2><br><p>Reporting to the Supervisors of Public Works Operations, the Outside Summer Student will be responsible for the following:</p><h2>Key Duties and Responsibilities</h2><ul><li><p>Parks:</p></li><li><p>Grounds maintenance, including litter collection, mowing, and trimming/edging</p></li><li>Sports field maintenance, including line marking, turf cutting, and minor repairs to field amenities and equipment (e.g., goals, benches, fences, dugouts, etc.)</li><li>Assist staff in the inspection, cleaning and repair of multiple park amenities e.g. playgrounds, splash pads and picnic shelters</li><li>Horticultural maintenance: including planting, weeding and maintenance of annual, perennial and shrub beds along with other horticultural displays</li><li>Operate various hand tools and powered equipment, including a pickup truck</li><li>Arboriculture operations including small and large tree care</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><p>Energy and Waste</p><ul><li>Litter picking and planned garbage/recycling collection and disposal in parks</li><li>Providing support for special events including delivery, set up, takedown, clean-up</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><p>Water/Roads</p><ul><li>Water Department- Traffic Control, Data Collection, Painting Fire Hydrants, Cleaning and maintenance</li><li>Assist staff in the inspection, cleaning and repair road and water infrastructure</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><h2>Education and Experience</h2><ul><li>Be currently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student and returning to school full time for the fall semester</li></ul><h2>Required Skills/Knowledge</h2><ul><li>Demonstrate the City's corporate values of care, collaboration, courage and service</li><li>Previous experience working in a municipal setting outdoors would be considered an asset</li><li>Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions</li><li>Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment</li><li>Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively</li><li>Must possess Green Patch CSA approved 8" safety boots</li><li>Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)</li><li>Ontario Class "G2" Driver's License may be considered</li><li>Be able to work outdoors during all weather conditions and available to work 7 days a week including holidays</li><li>Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions</li><li>Shows commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities</li><li>Shares new ideas and challenges the status quo</li><li>Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust</li><li>Takes initiative to participate in a culture of learning, mentoring, and sharing</li><li>Contributes to building and being a part of a positive culture</li></ul><h2>Leadership Competencies</h2><ul><li>Demonstrates personal leadership</li><li>Builds people and culture</li><li>Cultivates open communication</li><li>Shapes the future</li><li>Navigates and leads through complexity and change</li></ul><p>Attention Internal Candidates:All current City of Richmond Hill employees are required to apply via the 'View Jobs for Current Employees' link on the City's Careers Page.</p><p>We thank all candidates for their interest, however, only those under consideration will be contacted.</p><p>The City of Richmond Hill is committed to inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection processes.
