Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Law Assistant/Clerk to join us. The ideal candidate will assist lawyers in various legal tasks and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced law office environment. This is a hybrid role requiring regular in-office attendance, currently set at three (3) days per week.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing administrative support, including client electronic communications and appointments
- Assisting with project management tasks as assigned
- Managing calendars and organizing legal e-files
- Assisting in drafting legal documents, including applications, motions, conference briefs, prepare disclosure briefs
- Proofreading legal documents
Qualifications:
- Law clerk diploma
- Minimum 5 years experience in Family Law
- Excellent written, speaking and interactive skills; maturity and professionalism
- Understanding of legal terminology and procedures
- Understanding of Ontario Family Law legislation including the Family Law Rules, the Family Law Act, the Divorce Act, and the Child and Youth Services Act
- Proficiency in filing through the JSO Portal, uploading and navigating Caselines; working knowledge of cloud-based computing, Microsoft Office Suite, DivorceMate, and Cosmolex
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
