Our valued client is a national, full-service law firm with offices across Canada. The firm is seeking an experienced Intermediate Legal Assistant to join their Financial Services practice group in Calgary. This role supports lawyers working on commercial lending, secured transactions, and related financial services matters. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and experience in transactional legal support within a fast-paced, professional environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Legal + Practice Support

  • Prepare, format, and finalize legal documents for financial services and commercial lending transactions, including loan agreements, security documents, guarantees, and ancillary agreements
  • Draft correspondence and documentation from precedents and lawyer instructions
  • Manage calendars, deadlines, and workflow for assigned lawyers


Transactional + Registry Work

  • Assist with all stages of commercial lending transactions, including due diligence, document execution, and closings
  • Conduct searches, registrations, and filings with the Alberta Personal Property Registry (PPR), Land Titles Office, and corporate registries
  • Prepare and organize closing materials and post-closing deliverables


File Management + Compliance

  • Open, maintain, and close files in accordance with firm policies and Law Society of Alberta requirements
  • Maintain accurate records relating to undertakings, reporting letters, and trust conditions
  • Ensure compliance with internal risk management, client intake, and confidentiality protocols


Client + Team Interaction

  • Serve as a professional liaison with clients, lenders, brokers, and external counsel
  • Coordinate with internal departments, including accounting, conflicts, and records management
  • Contribute to a collaborative national team environment


Qualifications + Experience Required

  • Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post secondary institution
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting lawyers in financial services, banking, or commercial law
  • Experience working with Alberta registries, including PPR and Land Titles
  • Strong understanding of legal documentation, transactional processes, and legal terminology


Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Experience with legal practice management and document management systems
  • Ability to adapt to national firm technology platforms and standardized processes
