ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Program Manager, Service Quality and Implementation, and under the guidance and direction of the Team Lead, is responsible for maintaining all aspects of field instrumentation to ensure continuous operation of electronic systems in the Region's water and wastewater facilities.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Performs installation, maintenance and calibration activities in the Region's Water and Wastewater facilities.
  • Co-ordinates maintenance and plant operations with operational staff to ensure continuity of treatment or supply.
  • Reports to the Team Lead on daily work schedules and priorities.
  • Ensures that all safety and instrumentation equipment required is available and maintained at the job site and is in proper working order.
  • Ensures that all safety regulations and industry standards are followed, and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations are adhered to.
  • Recognizes safety hazards or situations and reports them management or requests assistance.
  • Responds to enquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate, from the general public, area municipalities, provincial officials, etc.
  • Ensures that services provided to internal and external customers meet Regional customer service standards.
  • Performs standby duties as assigned and responds to emergencies as required.
  • Ensures security and safekeeping of tools and supplies.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year Community College Diploma in Instrumentation Technology.
  • Minimum one (1) year in electronic maintenance experience in repairing, installing and calibrating instrumentation.
  • Must successfully obtain Operator-in-Training operator certificates in Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Water Treatment and Water Distribution and Supply within six months of commencing employment.
  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements for all water or wastewater treatment equipment in the designated area or treatment plant, and the ability to resolve operational/breakdown situations as it relates to instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of relevant Legislation, Acts and Regulations as they pertain to Health and Safety and, Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, Reg. 170/03 and 435/93.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability with instrumentation related to water and wastewater processes (e.g. analytical instruments such as chlorine, turbidity, pH and ORP analyzers along with flow, pressure, level and temperature transmitters, chart recorders and data logging devices).
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the use of mechanical and electrical hand tools, portable fans, generators, pumps, climbing devices, SCBA's, gas detection monitors, electrical test equipment and calibrators.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to complete a medical assessment that measures their functional abilities and confirms their immunization status. This is in accordance with the requirement laid out under clause 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).
  • Ability to read and interpret/understand mechanical and electrical drawings, P&ID's, specifications and assist in the design and implementation of various forms of electrical instrumentation.
  • Ability to physically withstand long periods of standing, walking, climbing and heavy lifting and work in all/extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter confined spaces.
  • Availability and ability to perform standby duties as required in accordance with Branch policy and respond to emergency situations, as required.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" drivers' licence in good standing.
