Your Toronto Zoo makes animal well-being a priority in all operations and shows respect for all wildlife.</p><p><b>Apply Online by September 4, 2025.</b></p><h3>Position Purpose</h3><p>The HVACR Technician, Grade 1 is responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, repair and installation of HVACR equipment, pumps & motors, site and exhibit lighting, emergency lighting, pneumatic / hydraulic doors, and generators. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.</p>
<h3>Core Role Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Duties include, but not restricted to the inspection, operation, preventive maintenance, service, installation & repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, hydraulic / pneumatic systems, backup generators, pumps, motors, fans, miscellaneous equipment and all associated components, accessories, controls and operating systems.</li><li>Maintains water softener and RO systems.</li><li>Maintains lighting requirements including emergency lights, exhibit, greenhouse, and tank lighting.</li><li>Maintains the cleanliness of all mechanical rooms site wide.</li><li>Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the Shop and surrounding areas.</li><li>Calibrating of electrical and indoor and outdoor resets controls, troubleshooting HVACR systems and associated components.</li><li>Chemical testing on closed loop and cooling tower systems, and maintenance of these systems.</li><li>Meter reading and generator testing.</li><li>Monitor oil and diesel tanks and maintaining ozone.</li><li>Installation of new equipment as required.</li><li>Assist in maintenance related duties.</li><li>Advises other Units regarding requested installations or repairs.</li><li>Performs all duties of this trade in compliance with municipal, provincial and / or federal requirements and within standards set by the Toronto Zoo.</li><li>Assist with and communicate details regarding contractor work on site as it pertains to the area including, but not limited to, projects put forth through the Project Management Office.</li><li>Respond to and communicate details regarding emergency situations while on site as it pertains to the area and Toronto Zoo policies.</li><li>Follows all policies and branch instructions.</li><li>Attends appropriate training courses as required.</li></ul>
