Job Scope:

The Health, Safety, and Training Coordinator is responsible for delivering in-class onboarding sessions for new hires working in airport, transportation, and security-related roles. This role ensures all employees receive required regulatory, safety, and security training, including elements of security guard instruction. Candidates with tactical training or advanced security experience will be considered strong assets, as this position supports training for safety-sensitive and security-focused environments.

The Coordinator sets the tone for professionalism, compliance, and safety from day one and ensures all new hires understand the operational, regulatory, and behavioral expectations of working in a controlled airport environment.



Major Responsibilities (not limited to):

Onboarding & Training Delivery

  • Conduct engaging in-class onboarding sessions for employees in airport, transportation, and security roles (baggage handlers, bus marshals, ramp staff, security personnel, etc.).
  • Deliver core mandatory training such as:
    • Airport security awareness (RAIC, DA, sterile/non-sterile zones)
    • Transportation safety protocols
    • Airside safety and apron operations
    • Workplace health & safety
    • WHMIS, AODA, and violence & harassment training
    • Customer service and professionalism
    • Security guard fundamentals (use of force continuum, situational awareness, incident reporting)
  • Deliver or support basic tactical awareness modules (verbal de-escalation, threat recognition, officer presence, defensive positioning) if qualified.
  • Train employees on proper use of equipment, PPE, radios, and communication procedures.

Security & Tactical Training Support

  • Provide training on security guard essentials as applicable to airport roles, including:
    • Patrol techniques
    • Incident response
    • Observation and reporting
    • Emergency procedures
  • Deliver or assist with basic tactical training components (if qualified), such as:
    • Situational awareness and threat identification
    • Non-physical de-escalation strategies
    • Defensive stance, positioning, and movement
  • Ensure training is consistent with provincial security legislation, Transport Canada requirements, and company policies.

Coordination & Scheduling

  • Organize onboarding schedules, classroom logistics, training materials, handouts, and attendance tracking.
  • Communicate onboarding timelines to Human Resources and Operational leadership.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors to ensure smooth transition to on-the-job training and field shadowing.

New Hire Experience

  • Provide guidance and support to new hires, addressing questions and building rapport.
  • Ensure a professional, structured, and welcoming environment.
  • Reinforce expectations around attendance, conduct, performance, and safety-sensitive responsibilities.

Training Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Review onboarding effectiveness and adapt training materials to improve clarity and engagement.
  • Stay updated with changes in security guard regulations, airport authority rules, and safety standards.
  • Provide feedback to leadership on training gaps, compliance risks, or operational trends.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Certification or diploma in Training & Development, Security, Law Enforcement, or related field preferred.
  • Experience delivering training or onboarding, preferably in aviation, transportation, or security environments.
  • Valid Security Guard License (or eligible to obtain) is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of security guard training standards, provincial security regulations, and airport security protocols.
  • Tactical training, defensive tactics certification considered a significant asset.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • High attention to detail with excellent documentation and administrative accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance (RAIC/DA).
