<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p><strong>General Labourer </strong></p><p><strong>Full-Time Position</strong></p><p><strong>Cranbrook, BC</strong></p><p></p><p>As a general labourer, you will work in various areas of the post, rail, and chipping operations for Kootenay Wood Preservers, a division of Doman Building Materials.</p><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Strict adherence to all health and safety requirements including regular attendance at safety meetings</li><li>Perform housekeeping duties in work area to ensure a safe and clean work environment</li><li>Cutting, measuring, sorting and stacking wood products</li><li>Manually feed machines in the peeling and chipping process of wood products</li><li>Inspect and measure wood pieces to mark for cuts and to verify the accuracy of cuts</li><li>Set equipment controls to meet cutting specifications</li><li>Inspect wood products for imperfections and remove as required</li><li>Count, sort, and stack finished wood pieces</li><li>Guide wood pieces against saws and operate automatic feeding devices to guide cuts</li><li>Dispose of trash and waste materials as required</li></ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Requirements of the Job</strong></p><ul><li>Able to accurately count and identify various lumber products</li><li>Good hand eye coordination and ability to maintain concentration and focus for long periods</li><li>Ability to work safely around moving machinery</li><li>Able to lift up to 50 pounds or 23 kilograms</li><li>Bending, lifting, and reaching during course of shift</li><li>Must be able to speak, read, and write English</li><li>Must be able to wear hand, eye and ear protection as required</li><li>Because the work can be hazardous, teamwork and alertness by all workers will help to keep conditions safer for everyone</li><li>Experience working in wood processing or lumber yard is desirable</li><li>Must have own steel-toed boots</li></ul><p><strong>Working Conditions at the Job Site</strong></p><ul><li>Must be able to tolerate working in outdoor conditions year round</li><li>Work site will be hot in the summer and can be extremely cold during the winter</li><li>Workers will need strength and stamina to stand, bend and lift on a daily basis</li><li>Work site can often be noisy and dusty</li><li>May work around machinery with blades or other hazards</li></ul><p><strong>Education</strong></p><ul><li>High school graduation or equivalent</li></ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p><strong>Employment Status and Hours of Work</strong></p><ul><li>Full-Time</li><li>10 hour shifts, Monday through Thursday 6am-4:30pm</li><li>$23/hr</li><li>Must be flexible to accommodate operational and scheduling requirements</li><li>Occasional overtime and/or weekend work may be required</li></ul><p><strong>Work Location</strong></p><ul><li>Lumberton, BC, is located southwest of Cranbrook (approximately 10 to 15-minute drive from Cranbrook)</li><li>Candidates will need their own transportation to travel to and from the work site.</li></ul><p></p><p>Doman welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.<br />Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.<br />Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.<br />We thank you for your interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.</p></p></p>
