Full job description

The Crating position, under the direction of the Production Supervisor, will primarily be responsible for building crates and skids in order to meet the demands of production and shipping. This position will assist with any other material handling and general labourer duties required. This position will ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency. Flexibility of shift is an important requirement for this position.

Job Duties

  • Safely assemble skids and crates for our product;
  • Transport raw materials, finished products, and packaging materials throughout the plant manually, with a forklift, with an overhead crane, or manually;
  • Putting finished product away into racks, ensuring that rack capacities are not exceeded;
  • Strapping/banding finished product onto skids;
  • Performing quality audits of the condition of goods for outgoing orders;
  • Safely operate lifting devices such as Counterbalance Forklifts and Combi-lifts;
  • Adhere to established safe working procedures and wear the proper safety equipment at all times;
  • Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency;
  • Maintain a clean working area free from dirt and debris between tasks and at end of day;
  • Assisting operators and shipping crew on an as needed basis;

• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Three years of related experience
  • Ability to operate required equipment such as saws and nail guns to cut and assemble skids in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material-handling equipment Work Conditions
  • Use of required personal protective equipment
  • Operation and use of necessary tools, machinery, or equipment
  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
  • Lifting, moving, or manipulating objects up to 25 kilograms
