Position Summary:
Reporting to the President of a business unit, the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities as well as the Information Technology services in Canada. The Controller will be the financial leader and business partner for the President and be involved in supporting presentations to the board and senior leadership team. The Controller will work closely with functional leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures, but also to explore how the finance function can support department goals and objectives. This position will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the financial reporting systems of the company in accordance with the company objectives and generally accepted accounting principles.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and departmental budgets and actual expenditures
- Coordinate all audit activity
- Prepare annual budget process and monthly 12 month rolling forecast
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership up-to-date of company’s financial status
- Manage company’s cash flow forecasting and performance
- Responsible for reporting of MPC earned and used and the application of earn credits to reduce use tax paid on non-operational cost
- Direct the timely preparation of accounting records, reports, special analysis and annual government reports by law
- Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization
- Create and promote a positive and supportive work environment
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance required
- CPA preferred-or the equivalent combination of work experience and skill development
- Ten (10+) years of progressive experience working in the Finance Department of a manufacturing facility is preferred
- Strong leadership competency including executive presence
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Controller capacity
- Computer savvy, requires excellent Spreadsheets (Excel) skills along with working knowledge of all Office products
- Self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Organized and able to handle multiple on-going responsibilities
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills which will allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting of data
- Strategic thinker, who can translate conceptual issues into tangible goals and tasks
- Fluent in both written and spoken English

- Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)

- Standing
- Shop Floor – as required, visit the manufacturing floor (PPE required)
