<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><strong>Engineering Manager, Financial Infrastructure</strong><p><strong>Location:</strong> Remote (Canada)<br /><strong>Reports to:</strong> Director of Engineering</p><p>We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a correctness-critical engineering function focused on money movement, ledgering, reconciliation, and core financial infrastructure. This role blends hands-on technical contribution with leadership of a highly senior engineering team. Precision, judgment, and calm decision-making are essential.</p><hr /><strong>What You’ll Do</strong><strong>Lead & Develop a Senior Team</strong><ul><li><p>Manage, mentor, and support a group of deeply experienced senior engineers.</p></li><li><p>Contribute ~60% hands-on (design, code, architecture) and ~40% on people leadership.</p></li><li><p>Partner with Product to shape a roadmap that balances commercial, operational, and technical requirements.</p></li></ul><strong>Own High-Stakes Financial Infrastructure</strong><ul><li><p>Oversee systems for money movement, ledgers, reconciliation, and banking integrations.</p></li><li><p>Ensure correctness, reliability, and safety in systems handling customer funds.</p></li><li><p>Maintain strong operational practices: monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response.</p></li></ul><strong>Drive Technical Excellence</strong><ul><li><p>Contribute directly to backend and distributed systems codebases.</p></li><li><p>Review designs, unblock complex technical issues, and drive high-quality architecture.</p></li><li><p>Uphold correctness-first design, data integrity, and risk-aware decision-making.</p></li></ul><hr /><b>Requirements</b><p>You are a deeply senior engineer and hands-on leader with:</p><strong>Technical Expertise</strong><ul><li><p>Strong experience with <strong>distributed systems</strong> (concurrency, ordering, idempotency, state transitions).</p></li><li><p>Deep backend engineering fundamentals; proficiency in a modern language (Python is a plus).</p></li><li><p>Experience with <strong>high-reliability or correctness-critical systems</strong>, ideally involving transaction flows or data integrity.</p></li><li><p>(Preferred) Exposure to <strong>financial infrastructure</strong>: ACH, payouts, FX, banking rails, ledgering, and reconciliation.</p></li><li><p>Understanding of <strong>ACID</strong>, transactional boundaries, schema evolution, and consistency models.</p></li></ul><strong>Leadership Strengths</strong><ul><li><p>Ability to earn trust and influence <strong>very senior ICs</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Calm, clear decision-making under pressure (including high-severity incidents).</p></li><li><p>Concise communication around risk, trade-offs, and architectural reasoning.</p></li><li>Comfort operating in <strong>complex, constraint-heavy environments</strong> (commercial, regulatory, operational).<br /> </li></ul><br><br><strong>You can apply directly to <span >peter.mills@talentlab.com</span>  or on our website at www.talentlab.com.
