Job Description
<p><strong>Position:</strong> Switchboard Assembler I</p><p><strong>Department:</strong> Custom Switchboards</p><p><strong>Client:</strong> A global power management company</p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Milton, Ontario</p><p><strong>Shift:</strong> Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Day shift for training up to 8 weeks, then transitioning to afternoon shift)</p><p><strong>Duration:</strong> 6-month contract with possible extension</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Construct large switchboard structures and subassemblies using pre-fabricated metal parts (steel and copper) following engineering schematics and electrical drawings.</li><li>Mount and brace horizontal and vertical copper bus, risers, and bus supports inside structures.</li><li>Operate a variety of tools: ladders, punch presses, band saws, pump trucks, compressed air lines, power impact wrenches, torque tools, and more than 30 different assembly tools.</li><li>Build pallets according to engineering design requirements.</li><li>Apply proper assembly fundamentals (correct hardware, torque application, fastening methods, tool calibration checks).</li><li>Identify design issues in mechanical and electrical schematics and escalate appropriately.</li><li>Perform visual inspections of parts and materials before and after assembly, ensuring compliance with drawings, quality standards, and customer specifications.</li><li>Cross-check parts against the bill of materials, resolving discrepancies with the Team Lead.</li><li>Repair or rework parts as needed during inspection/test stages.</li><li>Cross-train and backfill other roles when necessary.</li><li>Work in compliance with CSA and UL codes.</li><li>Maintain the accuracy and integrity of internal Kanban and MRB processes.</li><li>Perform other duties as required.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Position Criteria:</strong></p><ul><li>High aptitude for mechanical assembly work.</li><li>Ability to visualize and plan assembly processes based on engineering schematics and electrical drawings.</li><li>Extensive experience using power tools, hardware, ladders, and pallet trucks.</li><li>Excellent attitude with strong commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement, and teamwork.</li><li>Strong work ethic and ability to meet production demands.</li><li>Comfortable using computers for digital business tools (email, electronic models, eLearning).</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Basic Qualifications (Required):</strong></p><ul><li>Able to read, write, and speak basic English without interpreter assistance.</li><li>High School Diploma or equivalent.</li><li>Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical assembly using power tools.</li><li>Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Post-secondary education or technical certificate in a mechanical trade.</li><li>Experience using Outlook, Oracle, and Inventor.</li><li>Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.</li></ul><p></p>Browse Jobs in Canada by City
