Working for the Infrastructure Renewal Department, the Boom Truck Operator ensures safety is a high priority at all times and procedures are respected and followed as per CROR and COR regulations.</p><p><strong>Roles & Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Operates and maintains railway picker truck on track including cutting rail and loading product into rail gondola cars; when licensed, operates unit on main line track and on road</li><li>Builds relationships with the customer; interfaces with the customer via phone, radio, or in person</li><li>Maintains production quotas set by the customer</li><li>Loads the equipment and secures for transport</li><li>Purchases supplies necessary to maintain the equipment and the safety environment</li><li>Maintains necessary journals or maintenance documents as required by the Department; completes daily paperwork such as car loading, billing information, PO’s, and transmission of all daily activities as pertinent to track daily costing</li><li>Transports the team to and from various locations</li><li>Trains and mentors other employees on the operation and maintenance requirements of the picker truck</li><li>Guides employees in the safe operations of equipment and the rules and regulations required to perform the operations of the Department</li></ul><p><strong>Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities</strong></p><ul><li>Holds and obtains a valid driver’s license (car air brake endorsement an asset); holds or working toward a Class 1 driver’s license; clean Driver’s Abstract (last three years)</li><li>Ability to pass and maintain clear drug & alcohol</li><li>Demonstrated team building skills including interpersonal, communication, and problem solving as well as show strong leadership skills</li><li>Be able to demonstrate the ability to be safe on track and to comprehend oral direction</li><li>Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly</li><li>Ability to understand, record, and apply oral and written instructions; document work activities, and prepare required reports or work orders</li><li>Mechanical ability is preferred, with the capability of performing troubleshooting and maintenance in the field</li><li>A base knowledge of costing and computers is an asset</li><li>Willingness to adapt to new technological changes and improvements and participate in training and self-development programs</li><li>Ability to travel for extended periods of time (typically 10 days on, 4 days off) away from the home base of Brandon; work in remote locations in all weather conditions</li></ul><p><strong>Education & Experience</strong></p><ul><li>Minimum one year operating a Boom Truck required</li><li>Possess or able to secure Canadian Rail Operating Rules, eRailsafe, and First Aid/CPR certifications</li></ul><p>Note: This description is not intended to limit the assignment of work or be construed as a complete list of the many duties to be performed by the incumbent.
