Join our dynamic Total Compensation team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Total Compensation Center of Excellence (COE).


We are seeking a dynamic Director of Total Compensation to lead the development and implementation of our Total Compensation Center of Excellence (COE).

In this leadership role, you will define the COE’s vision and strategy, manage the operational activities, lead the Total Compensation Transformation project, and have the unique opportunity to build the entire compensation framework, shaping the future of TMU’s compensation landscape.

While this position is currently for 24 months, there is a possibility for extension, or permanency. You will also have access to our very generous Total Rewards coverage on day 1 at TMU.



Here’s how you’ll make a real impact:

  • Define the vision, strategy, and operational framework for the Total Compensation COE, shaping the future of compensation at our university.
  • Oversee and optimize Total Compensation operations to ensure a quality service in the JD, JE and salary administration support , robust governance and compliance and timely service delivery for the university community.
  • Lead the Total Compensation Transformation Project : including the design, development, communication and implementation of all key elements in the compensation framework, which comprises salary administration policy, job evaluation plan, job architecture, market competitiveness review, salary ranges and pay equity review. 
  • Spearhead compensation operation projects , including annual salary increases, executive compensation, pay equity reviews, and rewards & recognition programs, to ensure flawless execution, timely delivery and quality results. 
  • Develop a high-performing Total Compensation team , fostering a culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, and results-oriented delivery.
  • Be the Voice of Total Compensation : Serve as a thought leader and advocate for total compensation across HR, representing the COE’s objectives and input in cross-functional projects.

    Collaborate with the cross-functional team to develop high impact policies and processes.
  • Champion Compensation Training, Communication and Change management : Develop and execute communication strategies and materials for compensation policies and programs. Provide clear and concise training and communication to stakeholders.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement : Build a culture of continuous improvement within the COE by proactively identifying opportunities to enhance processes.

    Qualifications
    To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum eight (8 ) years of progressive experience in compensation management, with a deep understanding of compensation principles, best practices, market trends, and regulatory compliance.
  • Minimum five (5) years of people management experience, with a proven ability to lead and create a high-performing team environment focused on achieving outstanding results while motivating and developing team members.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation, or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a complex HR environment, preferably within higher education or the public sector.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders on compensation matters.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo and build a best-in-class compensation strategy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders across all university levels.
  • Strong proficiency in HR analytics and data analysis tools, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights for strategic compensation decision-making.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

    Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in common office applications (e.g., Google Suite, Excel). Experience with HRIS and compensation software (e.g., PeopleSoft and Service Now) is a plus.
