Hours & Term: Full-time, 2-year contract beginning March 1st, 2025 (possibility of extension).
Place of Work: Working remotely within Canada with a strong preference for candidates from the Ottawa-Gatineau National Capital Region (stable, reliable internet connection required)
Salary & Benefits: 80K – 90K, plus dental and health benefits
Vacation: 4 weeks paid per year, plus 1.5 sick days per month
Languages required: High-level working proficiency in English is required. French is a strong asset.
About the Role: The Director of Policy and Advocacy will spearhead QueerActionConnect, a multi-year initiative designed to empower 2SLGBTQI+ organizations to engage in meaningful advocacy and public policy initiatives. The successful candidate will lead the development of advocacy strategies, build strong coalitions, and provide the tools and resources necessary for member organizations to mobilise and drive systemic change.
The Enchanté Network is Canada’s largest association of 2SLGBTQI+ organizations, connecting over 300 member organizations from coast to coast to coast. We are committed to fostering equity, justice, and inclusion for 2SLGBTQI+ communities by providing resources, advocacy, and capacity-building support.
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Director of Policy and Advocacy to lead the Queer Action Connect (ActionConnect) project—our groundbreaking initiative to amplify 2SLGBTQI+ voices in public policy, advocacy, and systemic change across Canada.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement an advocacy strategy for ActionConnect, focusing on collective action and systemic change for 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
Act as the primary liaison with federal, provincial, and municipal policymakers, ensuring alignment with advocacy goals.
Capacity Building:
Coordinate and deliver training sessions, webinars, and toolkits to member organizations on effective advocacy practices and public policy engagement.
Facilitate opportunities for grassroots organizations to participate in campaigns and advocacy efforts.
Community Mobilisation:
Lead the creation of action plans, petitions, and campaigns that advance 2SLGBTQI+ priorities.
Work closely with member organizations to amplify their voices and initiatives in public policy spaces.
Partnership Development:
Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, progressive organizations, and unions.
Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration that align with ActionConnect’s goals.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Track the outcomes of advocacy initiatives, ensuring they meet defined goals and adapt strategies as needed.
Provide regular updates and detailed reports to the Enchanté Network team and funders.
Other
High proficiency in use and administration of cloud solutions e.g Google Suite, Asana and Slack
Other duties as assigned (i.e. support fundraising team; communications assistance, membership services support, etc.)
High proficiency in the ability to learn and use technological supports such as Action Network
Qualifications A degree in Public Policy, Social Work, Political Science, Law, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
At least 5 years of experience in advocacy, public policy, or a related role, preferably within the 2SLGBTQI+ or nonprofit sectors.
Strong knowledge of the Canadian public policy landscape, particularly as it pertains to equity and social justice.
Proven experience in leading advocacy campaigns and engaging diverse stakeholders.
Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate complex policy issues into accessible language.
Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (JEDIA)
