Job Description

Vela Software is seeking a Manager or Director of Business Development (“BD”) Strategy to drive growth across multiple Vela operating groups within our M&A teams. This high-impact role focuses on optimizing BD strategy, streamlining deal sourcing, and enhancing intergroup coordination to create a seamless, high-performing BD environment.

Working closely with M&A and BD leaders, you’ll analyze performance, share best practices, and support BD teams in sourcing high-potential software acquisitions. As part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team, you’ll help shape Vela’s BD strategy and influence key growth decisions.


Who You Are

You have 6+ years of experience in business development or sales development, including 3+ years in sales team management, strategy, sales operations, or revenue operations. A strong background in M&A deal sourcing or enterprise SaaS sales is highly desirable, along with a proven ability to analyze BD performance, optimize BD workflows, mentor teams, and drive cross-functional alignment.



Experience in M&A, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Investment Banking, or corporate finance is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • BD Team Support & Enablement:
  • Develop and implement scalable BD processes to ensure consistency, improved conversion, and efficiency.
  • Equip BD teams with tools, best practices, and data-driven insights to improve conversion rates.
  • Provide insights into existing and past performance and recommendations to enhance BD performance.
  • Analyze, manage, and optimize our CRM database to help BDs identify new opportunities and revive stale leads.
  • Identify and implement AI-driven tools, CRM automation, and analytics solutions to improve BD efficiency and deal sourcing.
  • Strategic Influence:
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure strategic deal sourcing coordination between groups.
  • Manage internal BD competition and represent Vela within Constellation.
  • Hiring & Talent Optimization
  • Collaborate with leadership on BD hiring, refine recruitment processes, and ensure high-quality onboarding and training programs for new BD team members.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 6+ years in enterprise SaaS sales, M&A, Private Equity, Venture Capital, or Investment Banking (deal sourcing experience preferred); and
  • 3+ years in enterprise SaaS sales management or revenue operations.
  • Experience using CRM platforms, reporting, and analytics, including Salesforce.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, both in-person and remotely.
  • Proven ability to build and manage a team of BDRs/SDRs while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and target-driven, with a track record of exceeding goals.
  • Analytical and strategic thinker with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel for company meetings and industry events.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
