Director, Engineering
The Town of Caledon is a blend of urban and rural, modern and historic, all nestled between the Hills of the Headwaters, Oak Ridges Moraine and the Niagara Escarpment. Caledon has a population of over 76,000 and covers nearly 700 km2, making it one of the largest municipalities geographically in the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting directly to the Commissioner of Engineering, Public Works and Transportation, the Director, Engineering is responsible for the direction of the Engineering Division comprised of Development Engineering, Capital, Water Resources, Energy & Environment Programs. The Director will manage a multimillion-dollar capital and operating budget and provide leadership and expert advice in the delivery of the Town’s engineering functions and services. The incumbent will ensure the delivery of programs and services for a growing community with evolving priorities and infrastructure requirements; ensures compliance with Town standards; directing and reviewing preparation of agreements, tenders, special projects and technical studies, cost effectiveness and recovery, design criteria, construction specifications. The Director will also be responsible for administration, government and public liaison, report compilation, and budget preparation and administration. This leadership role provides direction to a large staff complement of non-union, professional staff, and works closely with the community, Town Council, other levels of government and other Town departments, developing partnerships and key integrated services to provide better value for Caledon and its citizens. The incumbent is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, playing an active role in moving its objectives forward.
With a University Degree in Civil Engineering and registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience including 5 to 7 years’ leadership experience at a senior management level in a Public Works/Environmental Services environment; preferably in a municipal, unionized environment. Graduate studies in engineering, public administration or business are an asset. You have demonstrated experience in helping to lead process improvement and service excellence initiatives where people are key participants. You have demonstrated proven political awareness, business acumen, a track record of achieving results when executing transformational initiatives and will be someone who embodies and advocates for the Town’s mission, vision and corporate values whilst nurturing a culture of innovation and change.
