We are seeking a Director of Development. You are a passionate and seasoned fundraising professional with a strategic mindset and proven leadership abilities, possessing extensive experience in fundraising execution and strategy development. Reporting to the VP, Development and Communications, you will play a crucial role in building and sustaining relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders, launching fundraising initiatives, and securing sustainable funding to support TR Canada’s mission.



The right person is a self-starter and a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills. Our culture requires individuals foolish enough to think they can change the world and competent enough to have a chance. This position can be hybrid or remote with some travel required.


Duties:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with TR Canada’s mission, vision, culture, and priorities.
  • Lead the planning and execution of corporate partnerships, fundraising campaigns, events, grants, and initiatives to engage donors and raise awareness of TR Canada’s work.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and government agencies to secure financial support for TR Canada’s programs and initiatives.
  • Establish and achieve annual fundraising targets and KPIs that align with TR Canada’s strategic goals.
  • Develop and oversee the budget for the Development Department.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities, track progress against goals, and generate reports for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align development strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to identify funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the development functions, including donor communications and database management.
  • Grow, lead, mentor, and inspire the development team—both staff and volunteers.
  • Stay informed about trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements in philanthropy and nonprofit management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Background

  • Bachelor’s degree (in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field), advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising, development, or philanthropy roles.
  • Proven track record of leading comprehensive development strategy development and execution.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong proficiency in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Professional experience with CRM and Asana Project Management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Job Type:

  • Salary range: $90,000 to $105,000

  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Occasional travel, including overnight travel across North America.
  • Must be comfortable working in austere conditions when required.
  • Fluency in Canada’s Official Languages an asset.
