Overview

Reporting to the Data Architect Lead, Global Data Architect will take a lead role in creating the enterprise data model for McCain Foods, bringing together data assets across agriculture, manufacturing, supply chain and commercial. This data model will be the foundation for our analytics program that seeks to bring together McCain’s industry-leading operational data sets, with 3rd party data sets, to drive world-class analytics. Working with a diverse team of data governance experts, data integration architects, data engineers and our analytics team including data scientists, you will play a key role in creating a conceptual, logical and physical data model that underpins the Global Digital & Data team’s activities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop an understanding of McCain’s key data assets and work with the data governance team to document key data sets in the enterprise data catalog.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to build a conceptual business model by understanding end-to-end processes, challenges, and future plans.
  • Collaborate with application architects to bring in the analytics perspective when designing end-user applications.
  • Develop a logical data model based on the business model and align with business teams.
  • Work with technical teams to build a physical data model, data lineage, and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Develop processes to manage all models and appropriate controls.
  • With a use-case driven approach, enhance and expand the enterprise data model based on legacy on-premises analytics products and new cloud data products including advanced analytics models.
  • Design key enterprise conformed dimensions and ensure understanding across data engineering teams (including third parties); keep data catalog and wiki tools current.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new Digital and IT programs to ensure alignment to the enterprise data model.
  • Contribute to shaping McCain’s cloud migration strategy, enabling advanced analytics and world-leading BI analytics.
  • Work in close collaboration with data engineers to ensure data modeling best practices are followed.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

  • Demonstrated history of driving change in a large, global organization.
  • A true passion for well-structured and well-governed data; ability to explain business risks of too many mapping tables.
  • A love for well-designed and well-structured conformed dimension tables.
  • Use-case driven prioritization; ability to push business teams for value-focused requirements and challenge non-value-driven requests.
  • Experience developing data models optimized for analytics, including advanced analytics use cases and BI tools.
  • A coaching mindset with business teammates, data engineers, and other architects.
  • Strong enthusiasm for learning and collaborating with teams.
  • “Get things done” attitude; willing to roll up sleeves and work with others as needed.

Key Qualifications And Experience

  • Data Design and Governance
    • 5+ years of experience with data modeling to support business processes.
    • Ability to design complex data models to connect internal and external data.
    • Nice to have: ability to profile data for data quality requirements.
    • 8+ years of experience with requirements analysis; experience working with business stakeholders on data design.
    • Experience working with real-time data.
    • Nice to have: experience with Data Catalog tools.
    • Ability to draft accurate documentation supporting project management and coding.
  • Technical skills
    • 5+ years designing and working in Data Warehouse solutions; preference for S4HANA knowledge.
    • 2+ years with visualization tools (Power BI or similar).
    • 2+ years designing and working in Cloud Data Warehouse solutions (Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse or similar).
    • Experience with Visio, Power Designer, or similar data modeling tools.
    • Nice to have: experience with data profiling tools (Informatica, Collibra, etc.).
    • Nice to have: experience with MDX.
    • Experience in Azure or similar cloud environment.
    • Must have: SQL querying for data assessment and manipulation; hands-on Python/PySpark.
    • Nice to have: working with unstructured data; experience with enterprise-wide cloud migrations as data architect/modeler.
    • Nice to have: experience with Manufacturing/Digital Manufacturing; analytics-focused enterprise data models in Power BI; ML model design (Python).

Compensation: $85,500.00 - $114,000.00 CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility
