Candidates who would be excited to become part of a successful company will be interested in Robert Half’s opportunity to take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department as a Controller. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Woodbridge, Ontario region.

This role’s duties will require planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Candidates who know how to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will do well in this role along with creative types who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo.

Major responsibilities

– Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective

– Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

– Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

– Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

– Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

– Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

– Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

– Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

– Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

– Meet client expectations by reviewing deliverables of self and team to make sure they meet client satisfaction

– Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

– Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

– Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

– Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines

– Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

– Be detailed, flexible, and organized

– Multiple Entities experience highly desired

– Knowledge of CPA Designation

– Foundational knowledge in financial reporting

– Proficiency in Construction Accounting is nice to have

– Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

– Prior work done in public accounting is desired

– CPA/MBA preferred

– Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills

– Excellent verbal and written communication skills

– BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

– Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills
