<p><h3>Job Overview</h3><p>Commercial Litigation Lawyer for well established, mid-size, full service law firm client, Whitby.</p>
<p>Marberg Job Number : 2619.</p>
<p>Job Type : Permanent Full-Time.</p>
<p>Compensation : Salary negotiable according to seniority, plus comprehensive benefits.</p>

<p>Work Location : Hybrid – combination of remote-based and onsite at client's Whitby office. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.</p>
<h3>Responsibilities Summary</h3>
<p>Handle a range of commercial and general civil litigation matters, and grow your practice in a supportive and entrepreneurial environment.</p>
<ul>
<li>Handle files from inception to resolution, including drafting pleadings, conducting discoveries, preparing motions, representing clients at mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.</li>
<li>Provide strategic legal advice to clients and develop litigation strategies tailored to client objectives. Provide strategic legal advice and risk assessments to clients in a variety of industries.</li>
<li>Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, and settlement documentation.</li>
<li>Attend court appearances at various levels, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and other tribunals.</li>
<li>Leverage and expand existing book of business with support from the firm’s marketing, administrative, and legal teams.</li>
<li>Maintain and grow client relationships, contributing to the development of the firm’s litigation practice.</li>
<li>Collaborate with other lawyers and support staff to provide excellent service and outcomes for clients.</li>
<li>Additional legal representation, advisory and business development related responsibilities as required.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<p>Education : LL.B. or J.D. degree from a recognized law school.</p>
<p>Professional Credentials : Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.</p>
<p>Preferred Work Experience : Approximately 4+ years of experience from a commercial litigation practice in Ontario.</p>
<p>Preferred Sector Experience : Law firm experience required.</p>
<h3>Technical and Language Skills Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Proficiency with legal case management, legal billings, legal research, and legal documents management applications.</li>
<li>Proficiency with MS Office applications.</li>
<li>Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.</li>
</ul>
<p>Ability to speak a second language an asset.</p>
<h3>Task-Base Qualifications and Additional Attributes</h3>
<ul>
<li>Demonstrated ability to manage files independently and handle court appearances with confidence.</li>
<li>Proven experience handling a variety of complex commercial disputes.</li>
<li>Entrepreneurial mindset and business development orientation.</li>
</ul>
<p>A partial book of business is required, with the opportunity to scale your practice within the firm.</p>
<h3>Additional Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.</li>
<li>Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.</li>
<li>Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.</li>
