Job Summary:
The Chief Investment Officer (CIO) will lead the investment strategies and overall financial management for the organization, ensuring optimal return on investment while managing risks and adhering to the company’s goals and regulatory standards. The CIO will play a pivotal role in defining, executing, and overseeing the organization’s investment policies, portfolio management, and asset allocation strategy.

As a senior executive, the CIO will collaborate with other leaders to drive sustainable growth and achieve long-term financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
Investment Strategy Development:
Develop and implement the organization’s long-term investment strategies aligned with its financial objectives, risk tolerance, and overall business goals.


Portfolio Management:
Oversee the management of investment portfolios, ensuring a diversified and balanced approach to asset allocation across equities, fixed income, alternative investments, and other asset classes.

Risk Management:
Assess and manage investment risks, ensuring compliance with the organization’s risk management framework, and recommend adjustments to mitigate potential risks. Regularly review and adjust portfolio strategies in response to market conditions.



Team Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead, mentor, and manage the investment team to ensure high performance and professional development.

Collaborate with senior executives to integrate investment strategies with overall corporate planning and financial goals.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for investment portfolios, continuously monitor performance, and provide regular updates and reports to the executive team, board of directors, and stakeholders.


Regulatory Compliance and Governance:
Ensure all investment activities comply with applicable regulations and industry standards. Maintain strong relationships with regulators and external auditors to ensure transparency and adherence to legal requirements.

Market Analysis and Insights:
Stay abreast of global market trends, economic conditions, and emerging investment opportunities.

Provide insights to the executive team regarding potential opportunities or threats in the investment landscape.



External Relationship Management:
Cultivate and maintain relationships with external stakeholders such as investment consultants, portfolio managers, institutional investors, and other financial experts to enhance the organization’s investment approach.

Budgeting and Financial Planning:
Collaborate with the finance team to ensure proper budgeting for investment activities and monitor cash flows to optimize investment returns.


Qualifications:
Education:


A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Economics, or a related field is required.
Professional designations such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CIPF (Certified Investment Fund Professional) are preferred.
Experience:



A minimum of 10 years of experience in investment management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or executive position.
Proven experience in portfolio management, financial strategy development, and risk management.
Deep knowledge of global financial markets, investment vehicles, and regulatory environments in Canada.
Strong track record in managing large investment portfolios and achieving performance targets.
Skills and Competencies:

Exceptional leadership, decision-making, and analytical skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present complex investment concepts to diverse stakeholders, including board members and executives.
Excellent strategic thinking, with the ability to align investment decisions with broader organizational goals.
Strong understanding of risk management frameworks and regulatory compliance in Canada.
Proficiency in financial modeling, portfolio management software, and performance tracking tools.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position, typically Monday to Friday.
Occasional travel may be required for meetings with external stakeholders.
Office location with hybrid work options available.
