Job Description

Our client leaders in the mechanical industry is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team. The successful incumbent will prepare and complete an entire bid for Plumbing and/or HVAC on design-build or Bid to Spec Tenders.



Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and complete an entire bid for Plumbing and/or HVAC.
  2. Develop a checklist for purchasing to use prior to awarding work.
  3. Prepare and complete detailed Field Labour, Incidental Labour, and Indirect Labour.
  4. Ability to take the Lead Estimator Role for any size project.
  5. Manage multiple tenders as a Lead Estimator and/or assist other Estimators.
  6. Demonstrate a strong ability, understanding, and knowledge of all aspects of the tender process.
  7. Read and understand in detail the schedule and provide analysis and influence for the sequencing of all work packages to achieve the desired outcome.
  8. Interact effectively with other departments within the company to bring good value engineering solutions to the table as well as minimizing and avoiding unnecessary risks.
  9. Display a strong ability to influence suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and other external bodies.

Requirements

  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering, Construction Technology, or an appropriate field.
  2. Minimum of eight+ years industry and estimating experience, in Multi Unit Residential and ICI sector.
  3. Ability to read and interpret building specifications, drawings, and as-builts.
  4. Ability to use cost-estimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids.
  5. Sound mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material and labour estimates.
  6. Proficient with shop drawings and specifications.
  7. Strong working knowledge of Accubid and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  8. Effective verbal and listening skills.
  9. Strong time management skills.
  10. Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.
  11. Ability to work in a team environment with a minimum of supervision.
  12. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work on multiple projects at the same time.
  13. Work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines for assigned tasks and tender closings.
  14. Maintain a professional, positive working relationship with all employees, executives, clients, and engineering consultants to achieve a cost-effective solution for the project.
