*Purpose*The Behavioural Supports Ontario nurse will be the key point of contact within the LTC home focused on the care of residents with predictable, responsive behaviours. This position will develop care plans and disseminate knowledge to colleagues on methods to assist the resident with these behaviours.
The goal of the position is to decrease the responsive behaviours exhibited by the resident, therefore improving the working conditions for LTC staff and improving the life of the resident.
*We are currently recruiting for a full time and part time position and jobs are posted internally as well.



*Qualifications
Current unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
*Additional Education/Certificates Preferred
Canadian certificate in Gerontology
Current CPR and First Aid Certificates
Training in P.I.E.C.E.S.TM, Gentle Persuasive Approach, U-First, Montessori, an asset
*Experience
Prior experience with clients in long-term care and the community
Two (2) years current experience as a Registered Nurse in long-term care is desired
Experience with quality improvement processes an asset
Experience in GPA Coaching
Experience running the BSO Program
*Core Competencies
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and skill working with individuals with various types of dementia, delirium, mental health, addictions, other neurological conditions, and those who experience an acute behavioural change
Experience/ familiarity with RAI documentation including assessments, Resident Assessment Protocols (RAPS) and care planning functions
Belief in the protection of individual’s rights and advocacy role for the resident/clients
Demonstrated excellent clinical-reasoning and critical thinking skills to ensure preventative and early detection skills; strong assessment, intervention and care planning skills
Ability to deliver non-pharmacological and pharmacological management approaches (pharmacology skills)
Demonstrated trouble-shooting and problem-solving approach relative to the situation within the scope of practice
Demonstrated commitment to seeking and sharing practice-based experiences in two-way exchange
Provides facilitation, coaching, mentoring and adult education skills
Ability to adapt positively and productively to changes in the work environment
Ability to identify indicators of compassion fatigue and plan effectively for mitigation
Utilize an appropriate problem solving approach relative to the situation within their scope of practice
Demonstrated effectiveness as a team member through collaboration, respect and effective communication skills in interacting with clients, family members and other members of inter-professional care teams,(clients, family members move to front) including community and primary care team members
