Work Hours: Shift (35 hrs/week) – Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 13:00

Position Summary
As Bindery Operator Apprentice, you will be responsible for learning to set up, operate, and maintain a variety of bindery equipment—including cutters, folders, stitchers, and perfect binders—to ensure materials are accurately assembled, trimmed, and bound according to specifications.
A fully fledged Bindery Operator performs all those duties and monitors production quality, performs routine mechanical adjustments, troubleshoots equipment issues, and upholds established safety and quality standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Core Responsibilities
Set Up, Adjust & Calibrate Bindery Equipment
- Interpret job orders, specifications, and blueprints.
- Adjust knives, rollers, clamps, guides, and feeders for the correct size and thickness.
- Prepare machinery for folding, stitching, trimming, or gluing operations.
Operate Bindery Equipment
- Perform cutting, folding, stitching and binding with the following equipment:
- Heidelberg cylinder/letterpress equipment
- Polar guillotine cutters
- MBO/Stahl folders
- Muller Martini stitching equipment
Quality Control
- Inspect for misaligned folds, crooked cuts, missing pages, glue issues
- Ensure products meet design and durability standards
- Make adjustments on the fly to keep production consistent
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain machines
- Replace worn parts such as cutting blades
- Perform minor repairs and troubleshoot feeding or alignment issues
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Fluent in English (read, write, speak).
- Able to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Secret level security clearance.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Able to stand/walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to bend, crouch, reach.
- Able to lift/carry up to 60 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment
- Any experience with bindery equipment is strong asset
