GFI, a Westport Fuel Systems company, designs and manufactures a comprehensive product mix of alternative fuel components for applications in the light and heavy duty vehicle and industrial segments globally. This product mix includes Hydrogen (H2) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) components such as pressure regulators, tank valves, PRD’s, PRV’s, shutoff valves and integrated systems for a wide range of applications, including Fuel Cell vehicles.
Overview
This is an exciting Engineering opportunity to make a difference in the growing alternative fuels industry. We’re looking for energetic and motivated team members to further improve our product offerings for H2 and CNG components. This role is focused on product design, including analysis, testing, project management and support of internal and external stakeholders to close issues and launch new projects.
Position Responsibilities:
Design tasks for assigned H2 & CNG projects, from concept generation, through development, to production optimization, product launch and field support
Improve and cost reduce existing products
Participate & lead when necessary the planning and execution of product validation (DVP&R)
Benchmark existing internal and competitor’s components and systems
Analyze internal test data to iterate/improve designs.
Process field issue data to determine root cause and improve design
Provide technical support to purchasing, production, customer service and quality assurance
Conduct development testing in a lab environment, analyze data and document results.
Champion 8Ds, working closely with the cross functional team
Create and update DFMEA’s
Understand and apply APQP principles
Prepare and present technical presentations for internal and external customers
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
Promote Westport’s H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative
Position Requirements:
B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Minimum 5 years’ of relevant experience
Effective communication skills & ability to work within a team
Organized and ability to drive issue resolution
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
Experience with SolidWorks is considered an asset
Demonstrated experience creating detailed 2D drawings using GD&T
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems such as SolidWorks EPDM is considered an asset
Experience with design of high-pressure components/valves/actuators is considered an asset
Understanding of industry & regulatory requirements is considered an asset
Tier 1 or Tier 2 Automotive experience is an asset
